The first thing was to persuade the client to move the planned driveway (already partly constructed by the builders - eek!) away from the middle of the garden and to the side of the property. Once this was achieved, the gardens became an important focal point. The house was now linked to the outside landscape and gave our client an 'English garden' within the surrounding countryside. The garden took just five months to build. The existing garden sloped in all directions, and we wanted to keep the wonderful oak tree, although we did move the original telegraph pole as it spoilt the client's view. The garden was hedged to keep in two energetic fox terriers and the garden linked to the fields outside with meadow plantings and lawns that gradually became less formal.
